School Visits and Events

Visiting Offley Endowed Primary School was a wonderful way to spend World Book Day! Visiting classes from nursery (age 3) all the way up to year 6 (age 11). They really kept me on my toes with questions about bugs and being an author.

I loved hearing about the biggest worms the nursery children had found!

“Our Year 1 and Year 2 children had a super time learning about books and writing with Polly. Darwin's Super Pooping Worm Spectacular is a hilarious and informative read for primary age children, full of lovely word play and fascinating facts. The children were enthralled by the story and came up with lots of thoughtful questions." - Year 1 teacher

Watford Central Library was a lovely visit on a very hot day! I was blown away by the questions from some really engaged children.

Some comments from the children and parents: “I really enjoyed it. It was really great to learn all the different facts about worms”; “I hope I don’t ever come across a worm that long” ; “It was great” - Angela (Watford Central Library Manager), Date: June 2023

The Home Ed Hangout was a joy to visit. A range of ages from toddlers to teens. Fascinating questions and wonderful to hear about the books that some of the children were writing!

“Polly was a thoroughly interesting guest for our home education group. Both children and adults enjoyed listening to her book and talking about her experiences of writing - from the inspiration for Darwin's Super-Pooping Worm Spectacular to the process of getting published. A wonderful experience for children to meet someone who has succeeded and be inspired themselves.

Polly's book itself, was a wonderful addition to our topic on gardening and minibeasts, providing both humour and fascinating facts on an unusual subject." - Claire, Organiser of The Hangout, a group for home educators.

I had such a warm welcome back at my primary school: Brockswood. I can still remember an author visiting when I was there, and how exciting it was. So many questions and a lovely tour!

Thank you so much for yesterday, both the children and teachers really enjoyed the assembly.

I thought it was pitched very well and the children loved that you used to come to Brockswood. Your book had a queue in the library at lunchtime to take it out and I have a list of children now waiting for it. - Yvonne, Librarian and Teaching Assistant
